Holiday Content Creation Done Right

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🎵 and the best time to make more sales!

We all know the holidays bring on the busiest shopping season of the year but this also rings true across your socials. But how can we make the most out of it!? By creating a solid content strategy so you don’t get lost in the mix. Let me explain.

1. Start early

It’s never too early to start. That’s a common mistake many people make when starting to think about their holiday content and strategy. But, guess what, you know 365 days in advance it’s gonna happen, so get things figured out ahead of time. ⏰

2. Define your goals

So, first, what are your #holidaygoals? What shopping holiday is most relevant to your audience? If you’re sales hungry, go after big discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and start teasing them early; create urgency. Lifestyle or wellness focused? 💪🏻 The New Year is an obvious choice.

3. Be prepared

Customers are shopping earlier and earlier to get the best offers and to ensure items are actually in-stock. Make sure everything is set up for success. This includes your social media profiles, bio, website, newsletter strategy and sales funnels. Also, don’t forget about the technology that stands behind it, your systems and inventory.

If one lacks, the whole thing won’t work or could even fall apart. So make sure you’re ready for an additional volume of social media engagement, visibility and orders. Then you can really put your content strategy into play.

4. Analyze & optimize

Analyze previous years. Find out what worked in the past and what didn’t. How can you implement and optimize it for the upcoming season? If your goals align, repurpose & recycle the content that worked last year and spice it up a bit.

If nothing really worked in the past or this is your first holiday season, experiment with something new. Look at current trends, popular Google searches, and top gifting ideas. Analyze the holiday strategies of your competitors and recap what works for you; what makes you buy a similar product?

Create content based on that! Don’t forget to use those relevant topics as keywords in your captions and hashtags.

5. Be relatable and non-salesy

Put content out that represents your brand and its values. This creates a community that can relate to something special, like a celebration or tradition, and love for your business. Engage with your audience, share your authentic self, and see the profits without selling. By the way, this works year round 😉

Think bigger… or smaller actually… to really connect with your niche market. Partner with a local business for Small Business Saturday or donate to a charity for Giving Tuesday. These are growing events around holidays that can boost engagement, reputation and sales.

You should feature special offers that create interest and not a heavy focus on promotion only– sprinkle in educational and fun, engaging content.
